Front Garden re-vamp

We have had a really busy summer with the Urban Eden Landscaping side of things, and the weather has really helped us get lots of work done without being rained off every other day!
Here are a couple of photographs of a recently finished front garden which was in need of a make over.
The customers were so happy with the results, and now don't find it such a big task to keep on top of.
Pop along to our landscaping website to find out more about the services we offer *HERE*

We just need to find the time to start our own garden now!!

Elderflower cordial......

I love this time of year, everything is growing practically as you watch it & the hedgerows are looking lovely, lush & full of life. It is the perfect time to go out & pick some Elderflowers  & make fizz or cordial (not from the side of busy roads as this affects the taste) there is a River cottage recipe for fizz in an older blog post, but here is one for everyone, try it with some little flowers frozen into ice cubes for a pretty summer party drink.
This recipe for Elder flower cordial is from Sarah Raven’s  Garden Cookbook (Bloomsbury).

This recipe makes two 750ml bottles.
1.35g granulated sugar
Flowers from 15-20 elderflower heads
2 oranges, thinly sliced
2 lemons, thinly sliced
2 limes, thinly sliced
30g tartaric (or citric) acid
Put 1.15 litres of water and the sugar in a large saucepan, and dissolve the sugar completely before bringing to the boil. Add the flowers and return the water to the boil.  Remove from the heat immediately.
Thinly slice the fruit into a large bowl or jug. Add the tartaric acid to the fruit and pour over the hot syrup and flowers. Stir well and cover loosely. Leave for 24 hours.  Strain into warm sterillised bottles and seal.

Dog proof garden!

This is a job Urban Eden Landscaping finished a couple of weeks ago, the main reason the customers wanted the design & work carrying out was to dog proof the garden, they have a dog who likes to dig! They wanted a contemporary style with a mixture of paving & decking, the planting scheme was to be low maintenance, and when established will fill the raised planters.

Cottage garden

I just LOVE the feel of this garden (from Homes & Garden magazine), alliums & box hedge always look lovely together & I love the height which is added & the lovely vintage touches too, it has made me want to get our garden underway more than ever, only trouble is in the spring & summer we are too busy doing customers gardens to start on our own!! (No complaints about being busy though)!
Until we get it done I will just create a scrap book of lovely ideas & dream!!

Getting ready for the 'potting shed'....

Well the time has come to turn out attentions to our newly acquired garden, we bought our house one year ago & it has had a few surprises up its sleeve as far as the amount of work it needed goes (To say the least) however after much blood sweat & tears the house is almost complete so we are looking at the garden now....It isn't huge by any means but bigger than our previous yard which was a lovely victorian terrace house & a very lovely yard but not great for growing veggies!!
You would think having Urban Eden Landscaping  tackling our own garden would be an easy job but it isn't, we are so lucky to see so many lovely ideas & different materials that it is so hard to decide what to do! The house we have bought is a small cottage so it will be a more traditional garden with a few contemporary touches, I know I want a lovely potting shed/summer house at the end of the garden & I want the soft landscaping to have a 'potager' feel, mixing lots of veg & herbs in with the flowers & climbers so an idea is emerging I suppose!
So here is a pic of our VERY blank canvas, there isn't one plant in the garden!! Apart from an Elderflower which has self seeded & is growing out of the wall & knocking it over!!

First job for Col before the birds start to nest is to get rid of the Elderflower tree which has self seeded (though it pains me so to get rid of any tree) the wall is about to fall down!

Our garden is our weekend project (well our sunday project really as we work Saturdays) so it will be a slow process but I will keep popping updates on the blog xx

Vintage German Wooden Sledge

I have just added this great vintage sledge to our website,  it is one of our larger items which we are more than happy to pack up & send, simply contact us with your address & we will work out the best cost of sending it to you.
Now I know the obvious use for a sledge is in the snow, but when they look as good as this one there are many more uses for them too, they look just as good in the hallway used as a shoe shelf or in the lounge as a little table for magazines,  and, of course, they look great in a corner piled with presents at Christmas time.  The sledge is £50 & can be found on our website.

Pop along to www.urbanedenboutique.co.uk for more details.

Contact us!!

Well I have had a little play around with the website (still working on it) and added some of our larger Vintage Garden items, with instructions to 'contact us'!! We haven't included our larger items on site in the past due to the different postage costs but now you can simply drop us an email with your address & we will work out the best price & get back to you, all payments can still be taken through PayPal as this is the most secure way to pay online.
We are also more than happy if you'd like to collect from us, if you live locally it makes perfect sense, we are based in Hurworth, near Darlington in the North East.
Watch this space as we add more items, I am working my way through photographing everything!
